EICR Frequency of Inspections
How often an EICR (Electrical Installation Condition Report) should be carried out varies depending on the type, age and condition of the electrical installation.
BS 7671 states the maximum permitted intervals between EICR inspections, however, the electrician may specify a lower interval based on factors such as, the condition and age of the electrical installation.
It is at the discretion of the person conducting the inspection to recommend when the next inspection should be carried out, but it must not exceed the maximum intervals as set out by the Wiring Regulations (BS 7671).
For example, in accordance with BS 7671, the maximum permitted interval of an EICR for a domestic rental property is 5 years, however, if the electrical installation insulation resistance values are low (but just within the minimum permitted values) then the electrician might recommended the next inspection is carried out in less than 5 years. – This is just one brief example on why a lower interval between electrical inspections might be recommended.
EICR Next Inspection Table
The EICR frequency of inspections table includes electrical installations such as, domestic rented accommodation, churches, swimming pools, hospitals, hotels and many more.

This EICR table is from our Electrical Tools and Reference App, which is packed with many tables and tools specifically for electricians.
How often should an EICR be carried out?
The maximum interval between EICRs for a domestic rental property is 5 years, however the electrician may specify that the installation is next inspected in less than 5 years depending on the results of their inspection, measured test results and/or non-compliances.
The older the electrical installation is, the lower the frequency between inspections is likely to be recommended.
